Voice Physiology
i’m here today to discuss the physiology of the voice and the anatomy to help it function. to begin the video i think we should discuss how sound is made. sound is a type of energy made my vibrations when an object vibrates it causes movement in surrounding air molecules, molecules bump into each other causing vibrations called sound waves which keep going until molecules run out of energy. In order for us to be able to make any sort of noise we have to understand our air pressure system. Pressure inside lungs increases / decreases with each breath . when decreased air flows into lungs (inhale) but when increases we force air out (exhale). the oxygen that enters the lungs alongside air then travels to the blood yet carbon dioxide is breathed out, this is known as the breathing process . The diaphragm then contracts and flattens as the chest cavity rises, which allows air to be pulled into the lungs. then once the diaphragm relaxes and returns to its original shape the air can be forced out. *vibration system* The resonating system works in our body by closing our vocal folds so when we want to speak it causes an increase in pressure, producing vibrations and cuts within the air flow. The vocal tract is the cavity in human bodies were the sound is produced and everyone’s is different. The larynx is the voice box which contains our vocal chords. During sound production vocal cords close together and vibrate as air expelled from the lungs passes between them. The difference between abduction and adduction is that abduction allows the vocal folds to come apart to let air in and out of the lungs during breathing whereas adduction allows the vocal folds to come together to trap air in the lungs. they may also adduct to vibrate to produce a vocal sound.
